The film starts out suspenseful, as two kids are terrorized on a desolate highway. As the movie progresses, the violence becomes more and more graphic, to the climax and conclusion in which we see bodies with holes that go all the way through the flesh. Like many other slasher films of the modern era, Salva’s movie relies heavily on a horror-savvy audience and a mastery of special effects to create a frightening experience. Indeed, it is the body parts themselves that rule who The Creeper will kill. It has no psychological reason to cause pain, its violence is born out of a need for survival rather than a desire for sadistic pleasure, and it murders in an objective and unemotional manner.
