That residues of pesticide and different contaminants within the overall environ ment are of shock to everybody in every single place is attested by means of the reception ac corded past volumes of "Residue studies" and through the enjoyable en. thusiasm, sincerity, and efforts proven via all tve members from whom manuscripts were solicited. regardless of a lot propaganda on the contrary, there can by no means be any critical questions that pest-control chemical compounds and food-additive chemical substances are necessary to sufficient foodstuff creation, manufac ture, advertising, and garage, but with no carrying on with surveillance and intel ligent keep an eye on a few of those who persist in our foodstuffs might every now and then con ceivably endanger the general public well-being, making sure safety-in-use of those many chemical compounds is a dynamic problem, for validated ones are constantly being displaced by means of newly constructed ones extra applicable to nutrition technologists, pharmacologists, toxicologists, and altering pest-control necessities in innovative food-producing economies. those issues are of real predicament to expanding numbers of gov ernmental organizations and legislative our bodies world wide, for a few of these chemical compounds have ended in a number of mishaps from wrong use. sufficient safety-in-use reviews of any of those chemical compounds persisting into our foodstuffs aren't easy concerns, and so they comprise the thought of judgments of many people hugely knowledgeable in a number of advanced biologi cal, chemical, meals technological, scientific, pharmacological, and toxicologi cal disciplines.

54 F. A. GUNTHER, Y. IWATA, G. E. CARMAN, AND C. A. SMITH that the additional contact with residues carried to the skin with leaf moisture was the probable route of additional exposure sufficient to depress blood ChE activity. Thus, not only light rain but morning dew on the leaves or heavy fog are climatic variables that need to be considered. Figure 7 shows that parathion dissipation is quite similar regardless of the rate or method of application so that the dissipation curves tend to be parallel.

Each treatment on 16 to 23 sub-plots was replicated three times. The applications were made during the latter half of the month and samples for residue analysis were collected for two months after each application. A plot of the daily maximum air temperature for the experimental period is shown in Figure 6. The sampling interval for each monthly application is also shown in this figure. 0~ 50~ 0 10 ____L-__ 0 o o ~ 0 o 0 20 30 __~~__~__~_ '---rO~---CO'--o 0 o F 5~~--~----1~0----~---2~0~--~----3LO-- 10 ~-00-06QOo-o ~ o--QQ.

KAWAR et ai. (1973) reviewed the cold-storage stability of OP pesticides in plant parts; of 12 pesticides studied, only six were stable under a variety of conditions. Tables X and XI show little, if any, effect on the recoveries of parathion, ethion, and azinphosmethyl after six days of refrigerator storage and 90 days of frozen storage (GmnHER et ai. 1974). Propargite was adversely affected after six days under both types of storage. The revised procedure proposed by GUNTHER et ai. (1974) involves mechanical dislodgment of surface residues via thorough water-washing of leaves.
