It follows that there is little evidence of clearly dissimilar cultural macro-areas in terms of large differences in social values among Italian citizens. The results presented in this study challenge the notion of fundamentally culturally diverse – in terms of individual social values – macro-areas in Italy. In other words, they reveal the ecological fallacy of the application of regional characteristics to individuals without distinguishing between individual correlations and ecological correlations (Robinson, 1950).
