H e still talked about his parents' sexual relations, for example. But whereas in the preceding phase he had hardly considered his father's participation—and my attempts to emphasize 428 T H E SEARCH FOR THE SELF that mother and father had been e n g a g e d in intercourse had evoked no significant response from him—his associations (direct memories and, occasionally, transference fantasies about the analyst's sex life) now began to turn spontaneously m o r e and m o r e to his father's role.
